7 tips for staying healthy while travelling
It’s easy to stick to a routine whilst at home where everything is organised, because we can meal prep, go to the gym and choose exactly what we put into our bodies. However, when we leave this life of order and routine behind to travel, it often becomes hard to maintain that healthy lifestyle. Here are seven tips to help you stay fit, healthy and energised while you travel.
1. Drink plenty of water.
I always carry a refillable water bottle with me, especially when flying and walking around all day. Staying hydrated is key to feeling energised.
2. Always carry snacks.
I am basically the Snack Queen; I always have a food bag with me! I like to pack fresh fruit, healthy snack bars, nuts, rice crackers and avocado.
3. Intermittent fasting.
Admittedly, I do love a good breakfast, but turning breakfast into brunch when traveling is doable and definitely worth trying if you’re away for a long period of time. This is something I will do three or so mornings a week depending on what’s happening that day. If you’re new to intermittent fasting I wouldn’t recommend starting while travelling, but if it’s something you’re familiar with, why not give it a go!
4. Supplements.
Our immune system is working harder than usual when away from home. When travelling I take:
-
Digestive Support: a probiotic containing saccharomyces boulardii
-
Edible Gratitude Inner Peace digestive blend
-
Zinc and vitamin C, to keep my immune system healthy
-
Edible Gratitude Vital Force blend for adrenal support
5. Yogurt.
At each new destination I’ll always buy a natural yoghurt to populate my gut with beneficial bacteria. This also helps prevent food borne illness especially when traveling to countries with poor food hygiene.
6. Yoga.
Moving and flowing will keep you feeling light and flexible. It also helps to calm the mind, appreciate your surroundings and massage internal organs stimulating digestion and lymphatic drainage.
7. Skin.
Pack eco face wipes, lip balm and a natural moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated and feeling fresh.
